The German driver of a motorhome that collided with a group of youngsters in Devon July and included a young woman from Bristol, was too ill to attend Exeter Magistrates Court on Monday.

Arnold Kasserra has been charged with two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving in Common Lane in Beer.

The 67 year old is accused of causing serious injury to two young women when his Fiat Advantage camper van struck them.

Magistrates were told the defendant and his wife were not fit enough to travel from their home in Germany to attend the hearing which was adjourned until the end of September.

Mr Kasserra was granted bail.

UPDATE: Injured girl transferred to hospital in Bristol

A teenager who was seriously injured when a camper van ran out of control at Beer in East Devon has been transferred to hospital in Bristol.

She was airlifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth three weeks ago after the vehicle hit six pedestrians in Fore Street.

The move to Bristol's Frenchay Hospital is only so she can be nearer her home.

The only other crash victim still in hospital has now been released.

The driver of the van was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving but is now on bail.

An investigation's underway after a motorhome ploughed into a group of teenagers believed to be from Bristol.

It happened yesterday close to a beach in East Devon. One girl was seriously injured. The group were on a break to celebrate the end of exams.

A group of teenagers believed to be from Bristol were injured when a motorhome went out of control and ploughed into them.

A teenage girl is still in hospital tonight. It happened in the village of Beer in East Devon this morning. Five of the casualties were making their way to the beach - it's thought they were celebrating the end of their exams.
