Crackdown on drivers using their phones

Drivers in Somerset, using hand held mobile phones while at the wheel, are being targeted today.

Patrols will be out on the county's roads highlighting the dangers, and catching offenders.

It follows similar action in other parts of the west country.

The crackdown has been organised by Somerset County Council's Road Safety Team and Avon and Somerset Police.

It has been illegal to use a hand held phone while at the wheel since 2007, but many drivers continue to break the law.
