A new colony of the country's fastest declining mammal - the water vole - has been caught on camera in Wiltshire.

A new colony of water voles has been filmed along a Wiltshire canal. Ecologists are particularly excited as the vole is the fastest-declining mammal in the UK.

The voles have been filmed with hidden cameras, and were so bemused by the equipment, one even tried to run it over!

This video from the Canal & River Trust reveals a new colony of the country's fastest declining mammal - the water vole - in Wiltshire.

The animals were recorded by ecologist Laura Plenty on the Kennet and Avon Canal in Devizes. The Canal and River Trust say it shows that work being done to improve vole habitats IS working:
