Body found after cries for help heard coming from River Avon

Rescue crews are searching a stretch of the River Avon in Bath after a man was seen in distress in the water.

Large-scale search underway

Emergency services have been scrambled to the River Avon in Bath after a man was heard calling for help in the water early this morning.

Police officers were able to speak with him when they first arrived but were unable to get him out.

Emergency services plus Avon and Somerset Search and Rescue volunteers are at the scene, at Pines Way in the Green Park area of the city.

An RAF Search and Rescue helicopter was also used but the crew were unable to locate him.
