A huge celebration is being planned to mark Jenny Jones achievements at the winter Olympics. The snowboarder became the first Brit to win a medal on snow when she took bronze.

Winter Olympic heroine talks to ITV West Country

ITV West Country have been speaking to Bristol's Jenny Jones who won the first British medal at Sochi, and our first ever medal on snow.

Jenny took the bronze at the women's snowboarding Slopestyle in an event that made its debut at this years Winter Olympics.

It all began for Jenny when she took a few lessons on the Mendip dry ski slope in Churchill in North Somerset when she was 16 years old - she returned there on Friday and ITV West Country Tonight's Ian Axton went to talk to her:-

Jenny Jones excited about people's response

Earlier today Ian Axton met Jenny at the Mendip Snowsport Centre in North Somerset where she learned how to snowboard. As you can imagine, she proved very popular with the people having ski and snowboard lessons today and spent time signing autographs and showing off her medal.

Bristol celebrate home-coming of Jenny Jones

Details have been announced of how Bristol will celebrate the official home-coming of Winter Olympic medallist Jenny Jones. The 33-year-old, who was born in Downend, was the first British athlete to bag a medal for Team GB. The event will take place a week on Monday.

An open top bus tour is being planned to celebrate Jenny Jones winning a bronze medal at the Winter Olympics.

It will form part of celebrations being organised by Bristol City Council and neighbouring authorities. It will take place on Monday 3rd March.

A spokesperson from the Council said "We know people across the region are very excited about welcoming her back home after her huge success in Sochi.

“Plans are in hand for open-top-decked bus journey into Bristol and a civic reception at City Hall. Full details regarding the route and times will be published soon."
