Bus crashes into bridge in Cheltenham

A double decker bus has hit a railway bridge in Cheltenham. It happened on Hyde Lane close to the junction with Wymans Lane and Church Road this morning.

Witnesses say they heard a loud crash and saw flying debris as the driver attempted to drive the double decker under the bridge.

The bus ploughed on leaving the wreckage of its upper deck behind it before stopping about 30 yards from the bridge.

The driver of the bus, owned by Swanbrook Coaches of Cheltenham, is said to be unhurt. There were no passengers on the bus.

A passerby out walking under the bridge was showered with debris and taken to hospital by paramedics.

The road is now closed in both directions and emergency services and highways workers are at the scene.
