Police are appealing for witnesses after a car drove into two horses ridden by young girls.

Police hunting a motorist who failed to stop following an incident involving three young girls and their ponies, say they are trying to trace the driver of a red Vauxhall Zafira.

Car repairers in the Taunton area are being asked to look out for the vehicle.

The car's windscreen was smashed in the incident, when it hit one of the horses.

The ponies were so spooked, one panicked and ran at the vehicle.

The man at the wheel then put his foot down and drove off without evening speaking to the terrified children, who were aged between eight and 13.

The incident happened in Pussy Cat Lane, Upper Cheddon, at about 3.30pm on Sunday.

Three young girls have been re-living the terrifying moment a motorist drove into them as they rode their ponies along a country lane near Taunton.

Fortunately the girls were unharmed - although, they were left severely shaken. One of the animal's hooves broke the car's windscreen. Police are now investigating. Richard Payne reports on what is a far from isolated experience.

Car collides into girls on horse ride

Police are appealing for witnesses after an unidentified car drove into two ponies ridden by young girls at around 3:30pm on Sunday.

Three girls aged between 8 and 12 were out riding ponies on an unidentified lane near Taunton.

A driver approached the ponies from behind and was driving aggressively. The driver hit two of the ponies, and one of them reared up, smashing the car's windscreen.

The vehicle involved was red and drove off towards Taunton. Anybody with information should contact PC Ben Hicks on 101.
