A man has been taken to hospital after being stabbed at a busy shopping centre near Bristol.

The 41-year-old was stabbed in his lower back just before noon on Saturday at The Mall, Cribbs Causeway.

Police appeal after Cribbs Causeway stabbing

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously assaulted at a busy shopping centre near Bristol yesterday.

The man was stabbed in the lower back at The Mall, Cribbs Causeway just after midday.

He was taken to Southmead Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

We continue to carry out a thorough investigation into the incident and one man remains in custody at this time.

This was an isolated incident and police are not looking for anyone else in connection with it.

We would like to say thank you to several members of the public who acted extremely bravely yesterday and came to the assistance of the victim.

We are still appealing for witnesses of the incident to come forward and would ask that anyone who saw it to please contact North East Area CID via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 101 quoting 70809/14.

A 46-year-old man arrested yesterday in connection with the incident has subsequently been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody.

His condition has been described as "serious but not life threatening".

A 46-year-old man has been arrested and is in police custody.
