Fake speed camera stolen in Wiltshire

A road safety campaigner says he will build a more robust speed camera after thieves stole his handmade device.

Chris Fawcett was so angry at increased traffic in Shrewton in Wiltshire that he built a wooden fake speed camera from a kitchen shelf unit. Two weeks ago someone tried to burn it in the night. And on Tuesday evening the creation was stolen.

Now Mr Facwett says he'll make a new one from sheet metal which will be harder to steal. Wiltshire Council has asked Mr Fawcett to not put an unofficial device up.

A man who put up a fake speed camera in a Wiltshire village says he will put it up elsewhere if he is forced to remove it.

Chris Fawcett put up the device, made from a kitchen cabinet and a vehicle indicator bulb, on the London Road to slow down drivers through the village.
