The coach which overturned on the M5 in Gloucestershire was carrying 53 adults and children on a day trip to Weston-Super-Mare. The trip had been arranged by the charity Action For Children and the passengers were from Dudley in the West Midlands.

The coach is operated by Stourbridge-based Prospect Coaches.

“I can confirm that a road accident involving children and staff from an Action for Children service in Sandwell has taken place in Stroud. Until the full facts are known I cannot comment further.”

A coach taking 53 people on a trip to the seaside has overturned into a ditch after a crash on the M5 in Gloucestershire.

The accident happened just before 10am on the southbound carriageway close to junction 13 for Stroud, Glos.

The Highways Agency described the accident as "a serious incident", but with "walking injured". Police believe there are no life-threatening injuries.

Seven people are believed to be injured.

Two air ambulances are on the scene and crews from three fire engines are dealing with the accident.

A Gloucestershire Police spokesman said the driver had back injuries.

The coach is operated by Stourbridge-based Prospect Coaches and was taking 53 children and adults from Dudley in the West Midlands, on a day trip to Weston-super-Mare.

All three lanes of the motorway have been closed southbound while the crash is investigated.

Coach overturns on M5

A coach has overturned on the M5 in Gloucestershire. It appears to have left the road, near Junction 13 at Stroud, and gone down the hard shoulder before hitting the barrier and landing in a ditch where it overturned. Police say there are currently no reports of any life-threatening injuries.
