Couple who died in A303 crash named by police

Two people who died in a road traffic collision in Somerset last month have been named.

Robert and Brenda Newton, both aged 72 and from Ottery St Mary died after a collision with a van on the A303 near Buckland St Mary on October 31.

Police say a van which was travelling in a north easterly direction had just negotiated a sweeping right-hand bend when it appears to have crossed the centre of the road and smashed into Mr. and Mrs. Newton's car.

They were both seriously injured and died at the scene shortly afterwards. The van driver required treatment at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital before being released.

Police have appealed again for witnesses to the collision to come forward with any further information.

Protest at Stonehenge

A group of historians has been meeting at Stonehenge to protest against proposals to widen the road next to it.

Millions of pounds are due to be spent to upgrade the A303.
