Labour candidate joins call for Minor Injuries Unit at Cossham Hospital

A petition of 14,000 signatures has been handed to South Gloucestershire's health bosses calling for a Minor Injuries Unit at Cossham Hospital.

Jo McCarron, Labour's parliamentary candidate for Kingswood, says a local service is important for the people in her constituency.

Campaigners held a protest outside in Kingswood Park this morning. People living in the area say they were promised the unit after one at Frenchay Hospital closed.

A petition of 14,000 signatures will be handed to South Gloucestershire's health bosses - calling for a Minor Inuries Unit at Cossham Hospital.

People living in the area say closing the unit at Frenchay Hospital has left them with long distances to travel. A protest is expected at Kingswood Park later.

Cossham Hospital meeting

Campaigners fighting for a minor injuries unit at Cossham Hospital will be holding a public meeting in Kingswood this afternoon. The hospital reopened last year after a £19million redevelopment.

It has a birth centre and renal dialysis unit but a promised minor injuries unit has never materialised. The meeting is being held at New Cheltenham Hall at 2.30pm.

Cossham Hospital to re-open after re-vamp

A hospital in Bristol is opening its doors to the public on Monday after a 19 million pound re-vamp. At one point Cossham Hospital was going to be closed, but local people campaigned to keep it open. Now the hospital has new x-ray and ulatrasound facilities and a brand new birth centre.

Overall, it'll now be able to see double the amount of outpatients it once could. Tanya Mercer went along to see it.

Now the hospital has new x-ray, scanning and ulatrasound facilities and a brand-new birth centre. It will now be able to see double the number of outpatients.
