Tories seek a candidate to challenge MP David Laws

The Conservative candidate to contest Yeovil at the next general election will be chosen at a meeting in the town tonight. A so-called 'open primary', which all voters can attend, will select the person to challenge Lib Dem MP David Laws, who has a majority of more than 13,000.

Exclusive video of infamous Treasury memo

One of the famous handover notes in political history - bearing the phrase "I'm afraid there is no money" - which was given to Yeovil MP David Laws at the start of the new Coalition Government will be shown for the first time on ITV News West Country tonight.

That note has never before been seen in public but today Mr Laws, the former Chief Secretary to the Treasury, showed it exclusively to our political correspondent Bob Constantine.

Yeovil MP David Laws is expected to find out today if he'll return to the cabinet.

The Liberal Democrat was forced to resign over expenses having serving just two weeks in the new coalition government. He's expected to return to a senior position when the Prime Minister announces his reshuffle later.
