Soldier killed in Afghanistan is named

A soldier from Bristol who was killed in Afghanistan has been named as Lieutenant Andrew Robert Chesterman.

Lieutenant Chesterman's father has said that his family had lost "a fine young man".

The 26 year old from Bristol was commanding a vehicle patrol when the lead vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb on Thursday. The Ministry of Defence says his patrol came under fire and Lt Chesterman was shot.

A soldier who died along with five colleagues from 3rd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment in Afghanistan was a 'fine soldier and an outstanding leader', according to his commanding officer, Major Malcolm Birkett.

Hundreds packed Christ Church in New Mill in West Yorkshire for the funeral of 20 year old Corporal Jake Hartley, who was based in Warminster. His mother, stepfather and 12 year old brother were among the mourners.

The funeral of 20 year old Corporal Jake Hartley, who died with five comrades in a bomb attack in Afghanistan, takes place in West Yorkshire today. The men, from 3rd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, based in Warminster, were killed when their Warrior vehicle was blown up.
