32 years after fighting in the Falklands, a war veteran from Weston-super-Mare has been presented with a South Atlantic Medal by the Prime Minister. It follows an extension of the qualifying criteria.
Previously only those who served before July 1982 were awarded the medal.
Clive Smith and 19 other veterans are the first to receive the medal since the eligibility was extended.
The South Atlantic Medal was given to nearly 30,000 soldiers.
Today marked 30 years since the end of the war with Argentina over the islands, which sit about 300 miles off the coast of South America.
Fourteen hundred servicemen and women were sent from Somerset to the South Atlantic. The Duke of York, who fought alongside them, paid his respects today.
