From farm to festival - preparing for the thousands

It's just two weeks until the Glastonbury Festival, when some of the biggest names in music from around the world gather in Somerset under what - we hope - will be sunny skies.

As you might imagine, the site is buzzing with activity as they prepare the farm for the arrival of more than 150,000 people.

Metallica to headline Glastonbury on debut appearance

Glastonbury organisers have confirmed US rock band Metallica will headline this year's festival.

They fill the vacant slot on the Pyramid stage on Saturday night and are joined by Dolly Parton, Jack White and Elbow on the main stage.

Metallica 'worthy headliners' for Glastonbury

US rockers Metallica have been announced as the Saturday night headliners for this year's Glastonbury festival.

Organisers confirmed the band would fill the vacant slot on the iconic Pyramid Stage, sandwiched as the headliner act over the three nights between Arcade Fire and Kasabian.

Metallica are one of the most popular bands in the world, and they really are a phenomenal live act.

This a band that can sell out stadiums in pretty much every country on the planet. From Newlyn to Newcastle on my travels, all through the years, people keen asking me, 'When are Metallica going to play?'

There's a huge swathe of people who love Metallica to bits and just think they're absolutely amazing. They're worthy headliners.

Metallica confirmed as Glastonbury headline act

The organisers of Glastonbury have confirmed Metallica as the final headline act of this year's festival. The metal band top the bill alongside Kasabian and Arcade fire and will play the Pyramid stage on the Saturday night of the weekend.

Oasis reunion a definite maybe

Betting on whether Oasis will perform at this year's Glastonbury Festival has been suspended.

Rumours of an appearance started when Liam Gallagher sent a series of tweets which fans saw as a hint his band could be planning at reunion at the Somerset event.

Liam Gallagher's decision to indulge in some spelling has seen the odds on #Oasis headlining the Saturday at #Glasto suspended.

If Oasis did reunite at Glastonbury this year it would coincide with the 20th anniversary re-release of the Definitely Maybe album.

Ladbrokes says it is now suspending betting on the issue.

Emotions are running high as thousands of Glastonbury ticket hopefuls lost out this morning. The website crashed for the first half hour due to the volume of hits. Nearly a million people had registered, but today's 120,000 tickets sold out in a record 1 hour 27 minutes.
