Somerset handbag company criticised on human rights

There has been a protest in Bristol today about how the handbag company Mulberry has treated workers in Turkey.

The company, based in Shepton Mallet, Somerset, is being criticised for failing to protect the rights of workers after reportedly sacking staff who had joined a union at its factory in Izmir. Mulberry say it is investigating.

Cressida Bonas, Prince Harry's ex-girlfriend, is the new face of Somerset brand Mulberry.

The Chilcompton based company is famous for its fashionable handbags. In the photographs for the new collection, Cressida can be seen sporting the new Delphie bag, the Cara Delevingne bag and the Lily bag - all shot by photographer Robert Fairer.

Cressida Bonas grew up in Wiltshire and went to school in Bath.

Mulberry to open second factory in Somerset

Hundreds of jobs are to be created in Somerset after Mulberry announced it'll be opening a second factory in the county. The fashion giant's investing more than £7 million in the project.

It follows the company's completion of an extension of its existing factory in Shepton Mallet. It's hoped the new factory will open by December 2013 creating 300 jobs.
