Will this finally be the year for Torquay-born cinematographer and Hollywood stalwart Roger Deakins?

Mr Deakins has bagged his 12th Oscar nomination for his work on the Angelina Jolie film Unbroken.

Despite a dozen nominations for work on classics like The Shawshank Redemption and the Coen Brothers' Fargo, the Torquay Boys' Grammar old boy has never won the coveted prize.

Unbroken is a World War II drama based on a true story.
