Plymouth's Ben McBean runs for the Poppy Appeal

Former Royal Marine Ben McBean from Plymouth has taken a 31-mile run through the streets of London, taking a route that forms the outline of a poppy on the London map.

He used a smartphone running app on his mission to raise money for the Royal British Legion'?s Poppy Appeal. The appeal provides help and welfare to the serving and ex-Service community and their families.

Ben lost an arm and a leg in a landmine explosion in Afghanistan. He now has a career as a businessman and inspirational speaker.

Devon's Joss Stone to release Poppy Appeal single

Devon singer Joss Stone and guitar veteran Jeff Beck have teamed up to record the official Poppy Appeal single for this year.

The duo have recorded a revamped version of the song No Man's Land.

It will be released on 3 November in the week leading up to Remembrance Sunday.

Plymouth Military Wives Choir have joined the families of the armed forces at the first 2014 "Poppy Picnic" in Weston-Super-Mare yesterday. It's part of the national campaign to raise money for the Royal British Legion and is the first of a thousand "Poppy Picnics" taking place across the country this year.

Poppy appeal launched in Devon

This year's poppy appeal is being launched in Devon this morning at the Royal Marines Base in Chivenor.

The theme for the 2013 appeal is 'family'. Local school children from the area have been invited to take part in a service to remember servicemen and women who've lost their lives.

Thousands of people turned out on Plymouth Hoe this morning for the annual remembrance service. At 11am veterans, cadets and servicemen and women stood side by side as they paused to remember those killed in action.
