Fire crew revives pensioner in Bristol

A crew from Avon Fire & Rescue have resuscitated a man they spotted collapsed in the street. It happened as they were driving along the A4 Portway yesterday afternoon.

He was unconscious and not breathing but they managed to revive him using the defibrillators now carried on board fire engines.

They then handed him over to paramedics and he was taken to the Bristol Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The early intervention of the fire crew was absolutely crucial in giving the patient the best possible chance of surviving this life-threatening situation – first by recognising that the patient had suffered a cardiac arrest, then by providing very effective CPR in the first crucial minutes.
