Full report: second day of Somerset postal strike

Postal workers in part of Somerset are on strike for a second day after talks with bosses broke down. Managers have now been drafted in to deliver post.

But the Communication Workers' Union says only half the post will make it through letter boxes - as managers don't have enough local knowledge. Royal Mail say they hope the dispute's issues can be resolved.

Royal Mail 'disappointed' at Bridgwater workers' decision to strike

It is disappointing that our colleagues are continuing with industrial action in Bridgwater. We remain hopeful that the issues can be resolved by continuing to follow nationally agreed processes with the Communication Workers Union (CWU). Discussions with the CWU are ongoing and progress is being made. Royal Mail would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused as a result of the CWU’s action – and will be implementing a comprehensive contingency programme to minimise any disruption.

Postal union says more strikes to follow

The union CWU says more strikes by delivery workers at Royal Mail are to come.

Delivery workers at Bridgwater are walking out in a dispute over changes to delivery rounds and part-time working.

They claim managers are being drafted in to do their work are costing Royal Mail a fortune.

CWU say only half the mail will be delivered over the three day period because managers won't be able to cope due to lack of local knowledge.
