Plymouth's Sharron Davies is encouraging school children to get on their bikes today.

The Olympic Champion is helping to launch 'The Big Pedal', aimed at getting more children - and parents - to use bikes or scooters for the school run.

More than sixty schools in Cornwall, Devon and Somerset are taking part.

A recent YouGov poll revealed that children in the South West are getting less exercise than others around the country.

Staff, pupils and parents are being urged to consider using two wheels to get to school

Olympic champion Sharron Davies will visit a school in Chippenham today to help kick off The Big Pedal.

It's a three week event which encourages children and their parents to use bikes or scooters for the school run.

Thirty-six schools in Wiltshire have signed up so far.

It comes as a YouGov poll revealed that children in the South West are getting less exercise than others around the country.
