Man charged following shooting at Somerset pub

A 51-year-old man has been charged with a firearms offence at a pub in North Somerset.

Keith Hayward of Lyecross Road, Redhill has been charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. It follows an incident in which a gun went off at the Golden Lion in Wrington on Sunday evening, 6 August.

A 48-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assault on the same evening has been released on police bail, pending further enquiries.


Family's bicycle helmet safety warning

A family from North Somerset whose daughter was badly injured on her pushbike are warning about the dangers of cycling without a helmet.

14-year-old Shannon Filer from Wrington was lucky to escape with a broken collar bone, nose, broken teeth and severe bruising after she collided with a coach when her brakes failed.

Deal agreed in church chimes row

A couple who took action to silence the chimes of a village church at night have changed their minds. The bells of All Saints at Wrington had sounded every 15 minutes until the new residents complained to North Somerset Council, forcing them to issue a Noise Abatement Notice.

Jonathan Apps and Tina Hallett now say they have asked the local authority not to pursue the case following conciliation meetings with the church. More details here
