A teenage girl suffered serious injuries today after being shot with an airgun. The 15-year-old was shot in back and suffered a punctured lung in the incident in Matson in Gloucester. It happened shortly before 4pm.
The girl was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital where her injuries were described as serious but not life-threatening. A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
I'd like to reassure the community in Matson that we will thoroughly investigate this incident and take whatever action is necessary.
We have deployed a number of officers into the area and our inquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances which led to the victim sustaining her injuries. If anyone does have any information which they think may help our enquiries I'd ask them to contact us on 101 or, if they prefer, use Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
