Philippine Airlines has placed an order to the value of seven billion US dollars with Airbus. Although the order won’t create any new manufacturing jobs in Filton, the contract – for 50 new aircraft – will help support the workforce.
The aircraft are being purchased under a major fleet modernisation programme at the airline, with deliveries starting in 2013. Workers in Filton design and test the wings, fuel systems and landing gear for the craft.
