Appeal for missing recording buoy

The recording buoy has been missing since Saturday

Members of the public around the Severn Estuary are being asked to look out for a large yellow wave recording buoy which appears to have been cut off from its mooring on Saturday night.

It was stationed at Weston-super-Mare and is one of the many buoys operated by the South West Coastal Monitoring Programme. It's estimated to cost around £40,000 and plays a crucial role in collecting and transmitting real-time data about wave heights, direction and water temperature.
