ITV weather presenter James Wright was travelling eastbound on the M4 near Bristol tonight when he saw a lorry on the hard shoulder explode. He came to a halt near the emergency crews and saw them trying to extinguish the fire but the flames just grew higher.
He took this video on his mobile phone.
He says the lorry was carrying aluminium aircraft parts.
The fire is out but the highways agency is dealing with debris on the carriageway. The M4 is closed eastbound between the Second Severn Crossing and the Almondsbury Interchange. The M48 is also closed from junction 1 to junction 21 of the M4.
