A Royal Marine from Taunton's 40 Commando who was killed in Afghanistan has tonight been named by the Ministry of Defence.
Corporal David O'Connor was fatally injured alongside his colleague, patrol medic Corporal Channing Day while on patrol in Helmand Province.
The 27 year old had been in Afghanistan for less than a month. His commanding officer said he was loved and respected by those around him and was relentless in the pursuit of excellence in his duties. His loss will also be felt in the Taunton community.
