Bristol snooker player Judd Trump was on course to reach the International Championship final, and become the 10th world number one since snooker introduced a ranking system, as he charged to a 7-1 lead over Peter Ebdon in Chengdu today.
The reigning UK champion is attempting this week to land his first major ranking title since his triumph in York last December.
And providing he converts his hefty advantage over Ebdon to victory in the best-of-17-frame semi-final, with just two frames required when they resume later today, the 23-year-old will overtake number one Mark Selby, who lost in the second round to Ricky Walden this week.
Yeovil Town won for a club record 8th time in a row. Bristol Rovers also won, Cheltenham drew and Bristol City lost in the Severnside derby.
There were wins today for both Bristol clubs and Yeovil Town. Swindon Town could only draw and Cheltenham Town slipped to defeat.
Bath have beaten West Country rivals Gloucester 32 - 5 in the LV= Cup.
