The heavy rain overnight has brought further flood misery to hundreds of homeowners and disrupted the Christmas travel plans for tens of thousands of people.
Roads have been affected across the region, and three major rail lines have seen services cancelled, as John Andrews reports:

RNLI volunteers are on stand by as the region braces itself for more rain. Winds of up to 70mph are also expected.
