Couple rescued from River Avon in Bath

A young couple have been rescued after being slipping down a bank of the River Avon in Bath.

The man and woman, thought to be aged between 18-20, had slipped 20ft (6m) down the steep bank at Beehive Yard, behind Walcot Street.

People living nearby rang 999 after hearing their distress calls.

The were found clinging on to the ledge and were pulled to safety by firefighters using ropes and a ladder just after midnight.

The man suffered injuries to his leg.
