Taunton Deane Borough Council has said that travellers who had moved onto Hamilton Park in Taunton have now left.
The families were given a deadline of midday on Monday to leave the site.
The Council said the group left rubbish and what is believed to be human excrement strewn across the grass and in hedges.
I am delighted that the travellers have moved on.
It was extremely disappointing that they chose to enter the park in the first place but the state they left it in was completely unnecessary and the lack of respect for environment was beyond comprehension. I want to thank the police for their support and the efforts of the Deane Direct Labour Organisation who were on hand immediately to try and clear what they could."
