£5m pool and spa for Taunton gets the go ahead

Plans to build a new swimming pool with spa and café have been agreed by Taunton Deane Borough Council.

The new pool will be built next to the Blackbrook Pavilion Sports Centre in Taunton.

It represents a £5.4m investment for the Council and will mean a range of new facilities for the community, including a 25m six-lane pool, a learners’ pool, a café and spa.

The new pool will replace the ageing St James Street pool, which opened in 1928 and is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain.

I am delighted with this decision and what this will mean for the health and enjoyment of local people and visitors.

Having a pool at Blackbrook is what the public has wanted for a long time and it will allow for public swimming at both Station Road and Blackbrook.

The health and well-being spa is a great addition, giving many people the opportunity to access this type of facility for the first time.
