The Army carried out a controlled explosion on the device, which was found at an address in Kennmoor Close, Warmley.
Avon and Somerset Police said a resident informed them that suspicious items had been found yesterday afternoon.
Residents stayed with local family and friends or went to the cafe at the nearby ASDA supermarket.

Police are continuing their investigations on the scene today but they say there is no need for any further evacuation at this stage and residents do not need to worry.
