The Mayor of Marlborough's ceremonial chain has been stolen from the town hall. The chain, which was made in 1911 and has been worn by every mayor since then, was the only thing taken in the burglary which happened some time overnight.

The current mayor, Guy Loosmoore says:

“This is a sad day. Something of such enormous significance to the people of Marlborough has been taken. Whilst important, its monetary value is nothing compared to what it means to the history and dignity of local people".
