The M4 in Wiltshire has reopened between junctions 15 and 14 after this morning's multi-vehicle accident.
A car transporter, car and van collided on the eastbound carriageway just after midnight. A number of other collisions also occurred, causing major delays during rush hour.
As a result of these collisions, three people were seriously injured with one woman receiving life threatening injuries.
Two have been airlifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol and one has been taken via land ambulance to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon. The next of kin of all those injured have been informed.
A man was arrested on suspicion of causing a serious injury by dangerous driving.
He remains in custody at Gablecross Police Station.
