Dredging halted in Somerset after fuel thefts

The dredging process on the Somerset Levels has been halted after fuel was stolen from dumpers.

It's the second time it's happened since the dredging began.

The Environment Agency say they're considering new security measures.

We are considering additional security measures, including CCTV in our machines. This is very unfortunate and we would ask the community to be vigilant and report anything suspicious seen in and around our machine compounds to the police. Repeated incidents will affect the programme and our costs if it’s necessary for us to add further security measures. This morning the team on site are working to refuel the machines to get working as soon as possible.
