Details have today been released of the Queen's historic visit to our region as part of her Diamond Jubilee celebrations. A week today the Queen and Prince Phillip will be visiting Sherborne Abbey in Dorset. On Wednesday the Royal couple will be making their way to Somerset before heading to Exeter on the same day.
A Diamond Jubilee Fayre is planned to be a celebration of Somerset and Yeovil, its wildlife, heritage and industry. It will be located on the flat area of grass, next to the car park next to the Goldenstones Leisure Centre. All exhibitors at the fayre have been asked to provide displays and interactive exhibits suitable for children aged between school years 3-6 (ages 7-11). All Yeovil primary schools have been invited to the event and students from schools across the district will also be present throughout the day.
After Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh have toured the Diamond Jubilee Fayre, they will make their way to Crewkerne. In Crewkerne they will visit the Town Hall. Displays of local produce, historical items and documents will be available to view. The party will then move on to Exeter.
There will be plenty of opportunities to catch a glimpse of Her Majesty The Queen as she is driven through the streets of South Somerset and along the Royal route. Member of the public are encouraged to line the streets and embrace the moment with flags and all that in-captures the spirit and moment of this very special Royal visit to South Somerset.
