A man has admitted beating his father to death at their home in Dorset in what was described in court as a 'shocking and gruesome' attack.
Howard Winton Cooper, a former BBC journalist, was found dead at his cottage in Marnhull near Sturminster Newton in April last year.
He'd been attacked with a hammer, kitchen knives and secateurs.
Mr Cooper's son, 24-year-old Joseph Cooper, appeared in court today and pleaded guilty to manslaughter through diminished responsibility after reports found he was mentally ill.
He will undergo a hospital assessment before being sentenced.
