Billy Bodin wasted Torquay's best chance late in the game.
PLYMOUTH ARGYLE 1 - 3 PORT VALE
Robbie Williams gave Plymouth Argyle a first-half lead at Home Park, but visitors Port Vale hit back with three goals in 12 second half minutes.
Williams got the crowd on their feet after 18 minutes with a 30 yard strike, and Argyle dominated the rest of the half.
The game changed after Luke Young conceded a 66th minute penalty, which was converted by Jennison Myrie-Williams.
Vale were soon ahead through Ashley Vincent, and two minutes later, substitute Ben Williamson wrapped up the points.
