Heavy snow and blizzards hit the West Country

Heavy snowfall in parts of Devon this morning has led to school and road closures. The county council says its working hard to keep traffic moving. The snow missed Cornwall, but the county is now dealing with reports of flooding.

Road closures in Devon:

  • A380 Telegraph Hill is down to one lane due to fallen tree
  • A375 between Honition and Putts Corner is impassable
  • A375 Sidmouth Road closed due to snow
  • A399 ar Friendship Cross closed

In Cornwall, First Great Western has suspended its service between St Ives and St Erth due to flooding.

More than 20 schools in Devon are closed with one reported closure in Cornwall.

The Environment Agency has issued a number of flood alerts for the West of Cornwall.

In Dorset, the A35 is closed Westbound due to a jack-knifed lorry.

Dorset Police are also warning of cars in difficulty on the A35 east of Dorchester at Puddletown.
