LEAGUE TWO

  • TORQUAY UNITED 2 - 1 YORK CITY

Torquay United secured their second win of the week with a crucial win over fellow strugglers York City at Plainmoor.

Elliot Benyon popped up with an early poachers goal after Lee Mansell's corner was only partially cleared.

Alan Knill's men doubled their advantage midway through the half with a stunning strike from Ryan Jarvis. The winger ran 50 yards before hitting a dipping shot from 22 yards which flew into the top corner.

The visitors pulled a goal back in the 73rd minute to set up a nervy finish for the Gulls. Richard Cresswell scored from the penalty spot after Thomas Cruise was dismissed for a foul on Josh Carson.

York tried to make the extra man count, and United needed a superb save from Michael Poke to hang on for the three points.

Torquay stay 19th, but they're now 5 points away from the drop zone.

Yeovil Town let slip a 3-1 lead to draw with Carlisle at Brunton Park. Kevin Dawson, Paddy Madden - against his former club - and James Hayter had put the Glovers seemingly on their way to three points.

But they conceded two goals in the last three minutes. Lee Miller scored his second of the afternoon shortly before Luke Ayling turned the ball into his own net in the 94th minute.

Yeovil move up one place to 6th after their draw.
