Four wins out of five as Argyle climb the table

  • PLYMOUTH ARGYLE 2 - 0 CHELTENHAM TOWN

Plymouth Argyle recorded their fourth win in five games to climb further away from the drop zone.

Reuben Reid gave Argyle the lead against their high-flying opponents five minutes before half-time. The striker was first to the rebound after Joe Bryan hit the post.

The Pilgrims doubled their lead when Onismor Bhasera's driven cross took a deflection off Town's Michael Hector and flew into the net.

John Sheridan's men are now 18th in the table, but still only three points away from safety. They have a game in hand on most teams below them.

Torquay United are just one place above the drop zone after a 1-0 defeat at Gillingham - a result which promotes the Kent side to League One.

Danny Kedwell scored the only goal of the game early in the second half when he raced on to a long diagonal ball and fired across Gulls 'keeper Martin Rice.

Torquay hit the woodwork twice. Rene Howe saw his shot strike a post, while Kevin Nicholson's late free-kick hit the crossbar.

Alan Knill's men are level on points with York City who are 23rd.

Exeter City suffered their third defeat in a row after their ninth home defeat of the season.

Scott Doe headed home a corner in the fifth minute to earn three points for the relegation-threatened Daggers.

Danny Coles had City's best chance of the match, but his header was judged not to have crossed the line.

The Grecians are clinging on to a play-off place, but Bradford City are only two points behind with a game in hand.

LEAGUE ONE

Yeovil Town move up to third in the table after a 2-1 win over Shrewsbury. All the goals came in the first half. James Hayter gave the Glovers the lead from the penalty spot in the 11th minute after Marvin Morgan handled in the area.

Relegation-threatened Shrewsbury levelled ten minutes later, but Paddy Madden's individual effort - his 23rd goal of the season on the half hour - secured the three points.

Gary Johnson's men are five points away from second-placed Bournemouth with a game in hand.
