It's official - the South West has the best beaches

Keep Britain Tidy has announced the winners of the 2013 Blue Flag and Seaside Awards. In total, 23 beaches have gained the Blue Flag and 27 have picked up the new Seaside Award (formerly Quality Coast Award) in the South West.

All these beaches have been rewarded for their facilities, cleanliness and, in the case of the Blue Flag awards, meeting the highest international standard of water quality.

The Seaside Award has been introduced in England this year and replaces the Quality Coast Award, which was introduced by Keep Britain Tidy in 2007. It recognises beaches in England that achieve the highest standards of beach management and, in the case of bathing beaches, meet guideline water quality.
