Children learn to be Victorian servants

Children tried their hands at floor scrubbing and carpet-beating at Powderham Castle

Children from schools across Devon and Cornwall have been enjoying a taste of Victorian life 'downstairs '.

Youngsters have been having lessons in being servants at the 600 year old estate of Powderham Castle near Exeter.

More than 5,000 children have transformed themselves into Victorian servants since the scheme started six years ago.
