Three seal pups have been released back into the wild in Cornwall. Battered by recent storms, there have been a high number of seals being washed along the coast, many of them badly injured.

The Cornish Seal Sanctuary in Gweek has been looking after many of the pups who have been found stranded on beaches – the on-site vet has been assessing the injuries. These include broken jaws, flippers and wounds from the sharp rocks and harsh conditions.

Because of the bad weather it has been difficult to release the stronger pups ready to go back into the wild. The waves were too big for release on the Lizard, so Milkyway, Solar and Galaxy were transported by trailer to Praa Sands where conditions were just right.

Milkyway was reluctant to go back into the sea at first, it took around twenty minutes to convince him get down the beach and back into the water.
