Recorded crime across Devon, Cornwall and the lsles of Scilly remains 'static' according to the latest figures from the Force. They show a small increase of 0.2%.
There have been some reductions - with robbery down by 12%, vehicle crime by 11% and criminal damage by 6%. However, reports of domestic abuse has risen by almost 20% and sexual offences by 15%.
– Deputy Chief Constable, Bill Skelly
These figures are encouraging, with £40 million less budget and fewer officers, crime is roughly at the same level it was last year when we had more officers and staff"
But Deputy Chief Constable Bill Skelly also acknowledges that the Force faces some difficult choices in the years ahead - as budgets continue to fall and staffing is squeezed.
