Local Council elections take place across the region

European and Local Council elections have been taking place across the region.

European election votes will not be counted until Sunday night, but the South West's 5 Council election results will come in overnight and on Friday.

Here's a rundown of the West's Local Councils before the results were announced.

In Bristol no party currently has overall control. There is a Cabinet of six appointed by the Mayor, George Ferguson, who is Independent.

Labour are defending 6 seats, Liberal Democrat 12, Conservative 4, Green 1, and Indep 1.

Here's the current state of the parties:

  • Labour 28
  • Liberal Democrat 23
  • Conservative 14
  • Independent 1

No party in Stroud's Council currently holds a majority, but Labour, Liberal Democrats and The Green Party have formed a coalition.

The Conservatives are defending 9 seats, Labour 3, The Liberal Democrats 3, the Green Party 2 and the Con No Group 1.

Here's how it stands at the moment:

  • Labour 17
  • Liberal Democrats 5
  • Green Party 5
  • Independent 5
  • Con No Group 1
  • There are also 2 vacancies (previously 1 Green and 1 Liberal Democrat)

Gloucester Council is currently run by the Conservatives. The Conservatives are defending 8 seats, Labour 3 and the Liberal Democrats 4.

This is how it looks at the moment:

Cheltenham Council is currently run by the Liberal Democrats.

The Liberal Democrats are defending 12 seats, Conservatives 5 and People Against Bureaucracy 2. One election has been postponed until 3rd July due to the death of a candidate.

Swindon Council is run by the Conservatives.

The Conservatives are defending 10 seats, Labour 8, Liberal Democrats 1 and Independent 1.
