No West Country wins on opening day of the season

Yeovil Town's first game back in League One ended with a disappointing 3-0 home defeat to old rivals Doncaster.

The visitors, who were relegated from the Championship with the Glovers, opened the scoring in the 8th minute when Curtis Main lobbed Chris Weale.

Harry Forrester rounded Weale just after the hour mark to make it 2-0, before Theo Robinson added a third in stoppage time.

Yeovil's best chance came when sub James Hayter's shot hit the crossbar.

LEAGUE TWO

CAMBRIDGE UNITED 1 - 0 PLYMOUTH ARGYLE

Plymouth Argyle lost 1-0 at League new-boys Cambridge United. The U's were back in the Football League after 9 seasons in the Conference.

Josh Coulson scored the only goal of the game in the 61st minute, when he converted Ryan Donaldson's corner.

The hosts also missed an early penalty after debutant Carl McHugh had handled in the area. Adam Cunnington's spot-kick was saved by Luke McCormick.

EXETER CITY 1 - 1 PORTSMOUTH

Exeter City drew with one of the favourites for promotion, Portsmouth, at St James Park.

City boss Paul Tisdale was forced to name himself on the bench due to a lack of players.

Tom Nichols gave the Grecians a first half lead when he connected with Matt Grimes' low cross.

But the visitors rescued a point through Jed Wallace's deflected shot 15 minutes from time.

FOOTBALL CONFERENCE

Torquay United's long trip to Gateshead in the Conference ended with a disappointing defeat.

Lewis Guy headed the hosts ahead in the 18th minute.

Ryan Bowman had a great chance to equalise from the penalty spot after Louis Briscoe was brought down by Ryan Wilson.

Marcus Maddison won the game with a goal in each half, with Briscoe scoring a late consolation for the Gulls.
