Argyle ease past 10 man Southend

Plymouth Argyle beat Southend in League Two, while Torquay United were the region's only other winners.

Yeovil were grateful for an own goal by former Glover Martin Cranie to earn them a point at home to Barnsley.

Former Plymouth Argyle captain Conor Hourihane's 25 yard strike gave the Tykes a 27th minute lead, but Cranie deflected Jakub Sokolik's cross into his own net with 15 minutes left to play.

LEAGUE TWO

NORTHAMPTON TOWN 1 - 0 EXETER CITY

Winless Exeter City were denied a point by a cruel 90th minute winner.

Marc Richards' spectacular overhead kick was the difference between the two sides.

Second half goals from Lewis Alessandra and Reuben Reid helped Argyle overcome Southend at Home Park.

The visitors played most of the match with 10 men after Cian Bolger was sent off for two yellow cards.

Alessandra put the Pilgrims in front in the 52nd minute after Kevin Mellor's strong run and cutback.

Alessandra then turned provider to set up Reid twenty minutes from time, with the striker heading in his fifth goal of the season.

Duane Ofori-Acheampong scored twice as Torquay came from behind to beat Lincoln.

The hosts had Nat Brown sent off for a deliberate handball early in the game, but soon went ahead when Andy Tomlinson slotted home a penalty after a foul by Aaron Downes.

Ofori-Acheampong levelled before half-time, before Courtney Richards scored from 25 yards in the 62nd minute. And Ofori-Acheampong sealed the win ten minutes later.
